Here are older projects, most of which were when I was designing under the name Spillt, prior to Runrobot. I no longer use the name Spillt, although it's been acquired by a few people in Denver (no relation). The projects featured here aren't in any particular order as they've been added out of sequence, and not all contain links to the final motion piece. Most, however, are featured in parts in an older reel ( Fall 05 Reel > located in Pages / Motion Design Work, Ver 5 ).

amc \ sunday morning shootout

A redesign of the entire show package, created for Convert NYC, based on Los Angeles and screenplays -- which served as backdrop to the numerous billboards that made up the spot, along with sunsets made of coffee stains.

bbc \ honey we're killing the kids

Concept, design, and animation for a british show about nutrition, created one afternoon while freelancing at Leroy + Clarkson. Colors inspired by Hershey's chocolate and Reese's Pieces packaging.

hbo \ revolution

Part of the on-air image campaign, this was designed to showcase HBO Film's numerous awards and programming. Design, animation, and art direction while freelancing at Trollback + Co. The idea was to use timecode as a transitional/title device. Published in: Typography 26: The Annual of the Type Directors’ Club and featured in The Workshop for Time-Based Design located within the Institut für Mediendesign at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences.

fuse \ flist

Designed and animated for Tronic Studio, this show package (including Bumps and L3s) used X-Ray imagery, footage of smoke, and scans of plastic wrappers.

tf1 \ redesign

Developed a series of spots for Convert NYC as part of a pitch to redesign the French channel TF1. Overall design elements included bright, solid colors, strong type, and minimal imagery -- derived from their three-color, type-based logo -- that would fold and unfold to hide and reveal elements. Matt Tragesser was the Creative Director on this project.

fuse \ no.1 countdown

My first project in New York, designed at Tronic Studio (Vivian, Jes, and myself are featured in the spots). A show package for Fuse, this included all the usual suspects: lower thirds, cut-to's, category opens, etc. Created in a pretty short time, it featured photos taken in the studio, around the city and in Central Park, cut up and disconnected, with elements and large numbers floating throughout. The logo was designed to fit within the spots and on its own.

mtv \ rob & big

Design and animation for the release of Rob & Big's DVD Extravaganza. Created for Digital Events/Cluster Studio and MTV, this included Opens, Transitions, Menus, L3s, and Special Features.

amc \ sunday night movie

Design and animation of AMC's Sunday Night Movie for Tronic Studio + the Ebeling Group (based on Tommy Wooh's original boards); features a blue background and layers of clean type throughout.

nike \ the spaniard

A side project; features footage shot by Dennis Flippin and photography that was later treated and re-purposed for a documentary piece.

Focusing on street/playground basketball and a player's skillful maneuvering, it identified various levels of control within a play. Clean typography and solid colors helped to keep the player in focus.

absolut \ the

Two Absolut spots for Tronic Studio based on a list of absolutes (the absolute cult movie, hole in the ground, road trip, man, etc), leading up to the Absolut Vodka. Type-based (over edit), the actual design challenge eventually became where to position the word 'the' in relation to the bottle (which was subsequently adopted in Absolut's print campaigns).

wachovia \ what if

A series of spots designed and animated at Transistor Studios for Wachovia Bank, all centered around the question 'what if..?' in regards to customers' investments and retirement planning. What if Wachovia filed for bankruptcy wasn't one of the questions though. James Price was the Creative Director.

adidas \ lessons

Created while freelancing at mk12; involved a lot of masking, rotoscoping, layering, and editing of footage. Tim Fisher creatively directed.

discovery \ risk factor

Concept, design, and animation of a news package for Trollback + Co, using layers of headlines (information) and maps from around the world. Simple in concept, it won a few awards including Best News Category from Promax/BDA.

mtv \ video music awards

The animation of spots promoting the MTV/VMA, created for Transistor Studios. Jon Cannon was the designer/Art Director; James Price the Creative Director. Using assets Jon designed and the concept of backlots, we created an environment of buildings, scaffolding and artificial sets within which the camera could travel, knocking some things down and banking around others as it moved, eventually leading up to an enormous show logo carried by a helicopter.

proctor & gamble \ two in one

A minimally designed and animated project for Impossible Pictures about a new line of environmentally conscious detergents.

jaguar \ sins

One of the first projects I worked on for Trollback + Co, this involved simple typography over black and white footage of the then new Jaguar xj8L. More details on Trollback's site (the site's a bit clunky, but you can find it in the work section, under the automotive and/or red tags).

filmlot \ logo animation

Animation and screener for Filmlot, an organization that promotes independent films, with colorful and messy ink splatters from which scenery, type, and logos grow. Includes sponsor tags and logo lockup.

converse \ chuck wade

Designed and animated for Tronic Studio, a series of two spots for Converse were turned around within four days.

logo \ feature presentation

A type-based animation designed and animated for Gretel NY, for Logo, where larger type slides in and squeezes itself into smaller text, revealing categories of programming. Greg Hahn was the Creative Director.

the living things \ music video

Working with Tronic Studio and director Floria Sigismondi, this music video for Bom Bom Bom was made up of illustrations, rotoscoped archival footage, and green screen shots of the band.

ten \ rebrand

A series of Channel IDs, Show Opens, and various materials for the redesign for the numerous channels that make up The Erotic Networks (a competitor of Playboy). Oddly, I later became involved in the rebrand of Playboy Tv.

motocyclette \ short film

The title sequence for an experimental film featuring hundreds of short clips, the animation involved navigating and selecting scenes.

fuse \ the dive

Designed, shot, and edited Fuse's The Dive show package for Tronic Studio; the turnaround was quick and dirty (shot on a clunky Sony mini-Dv cam), which helped accentuate the garage band feel of the final result.
